All about SharePoint best practice... ask me how
NZSPC Update : SharePoint Ask the Experts Panel Questions at NZSPC [ Posted on: 29-June-2009 ]

We recently announced to all our registered delegates about the “Ask the Experts” Keynote panel that will be held at NZSPC on Friday, July 03, 2009 starting at 11:15 AM to 12:15 PM (New Zealand Time) in the Duxton Ballroom. You can now post your questions on the user group site.

So far we have received the following questions. We’ll take the best one’s and answer these at the conference. I will also post answers on my blog for some of these.

Questions so far..

User Adoption - There are lots of books about SharePoint on the market. If we customise our SharePoint user interface will these books still be useful to my users?

Web Content Management - I know there is the reusable snippets library which is great for small pieces of content. But how can I reuse whole pages so they appear in different parts of my website without sending the user to another part of the site?

Infrastructure - Can you describe some of the challenges of setting up Kerberos authentication in load balanced environments?

User Adoption - When is SharePoint not the right tool for the job?

Search - What is the easiest way to make the results of a search more useful, i.e. so that you have the context menu option for performing actions rather than just a link to the item.

My Sites - What is the best way to update everyone's existing My Sites e.g. remove their My Mail webpart and add a My Calendar web part into the same location?

Business Data Catalog - If I customise a New Item form, with Business Data Catalog (BDC) information included, how can I get the BDC lookup to populate the list.  Only works when you use the standard New Item form.

Infrastructure - In a SharePoint server farm, it appears the Site Usage Reports do not work. Can access the data with SharePoint Designer, but the Usage Reports when sitting on the secondary farm server, the Site Sertting options fail.

Web Content Management - If you're using content deployment to push out published content to a read-only site, but want to add interactivity (e.g. comments on a blog),  what's the best way to combine the read-only deployed content, and the read/write interactive content?

Please keep adding questions, if we can’t answer these at the experts panel I am sure these will be answered via a follow up blog post.

Follow the NZ SharePoint twitter channel for conference updates and news.

Steve Smith (MVP) is running an advanced architecture workshop next week and we still have some places left. This is one of the premier SharePoint architect workshops and is highly recommended to any SharePoint administrator. Details are on here.
