Business Analysis Best Practices and SharePoint - User Group Event Wellington NZ [ Posted on: 23-October-2008 ]

The Wellington New Zealand SharePoint User Group is celebrating it's 2nd Birthday on 29th of October 2008.

Session Topic: Business Analysis Best Practices and SharePoint

The ease of building sites in MOSS and WSS has allowed for many systems to grow unchecked and without guidance.  Allowing users to create and configure their own sites (Team Sites, Project Sites, My Sites, etc.) is great for collaboration and empowering your teams, but it can also lead to chaos in system navigation and data.  Standard business analysis practices (such as requirements gathering) many times get replaced by fitting out-of-the-box SharePoint features to a perceived business need (like Team Calendars).

In this session Ken Biswell will review the process Redvespa Consultants went through to redevelop their MOSS intranet to better fit their business needs.  By approaching the system upgrade from a user-centric position, the Redvespa BAs focussed on how to make SharePoint fit the needs of the various audiences.

The discussion will include:

  • Using SharePoint for overall project collaboration
  • Requirement gathering and analysis
  • Personas exercise
  • Applying design to MOSS
  • Marrying requirements to features

We’ll take a look at the before and after systems, as well as how to incorporate your business analysts into the SharePoint development process.

Ken Biswell is the Technical manager and Solutions lead at Redvespa www.redvespa.com a Wellington based consulting services company who specialise in business analysis.
