SharePoint Content Types for the masses - UG Session Resources [ Posted on: 27-March-2008 ]

Last evening we had our Wellington SharePoint user group session and the topic was "Content Types". Mark (OJ) introduced the concept of Content Types and some guidelines on how to use Content Types in your SharePoint deployments. Here are the resources and links that I promised.

Power Users (Create and Maintain Content Types via the SharePoint Administrative Interface)

If you are new to SharePoint and the concept of SharePoint Content Types the following list of links are very important to follow.

Information Architects

Some Concepts on Document Centralisation from Bob Mixon's Blog for Information Architects and Information Management

Developers (Create and Manage content types programmatically in a distributed SharePoint deployment or across site collections)

If you are a developer there are guides available on MSDN. You can start from:

Tools of Managing your SharePoint Deployment

Content By Type Web Part - Ton Stegeman (Free web part for querying cross sites for Content By Type)

Lightning Conductor Web Part - Allows you to aggregate data from Lists and Libraries throughout the current Site Collection, and across Multiple Site Collections

SharePoint Content Deployment Wizard - Chris O'Brien

Web Content Management Links and Resources - Andrew Connell

SharePoint Cross Site Configurator - MSIT (Solution Accelerator)

Gear Up for SharePoint - Planning for a SharePoint Deployment
