Speaking at Christchurch SharePoint User Group in November

Matt from Christchurch SPUG invited me to come and talk at the November SharePoint UG in Christchurch. Matt has done an awesome job promoting the use and adoption of SharePoint for the local developer community.

So I am off to Christchurch on 25th November to talk about SharePoint Planning and Governance.

    SharePoint Planning and Governance

Practical steps for ensuring that you get the most out of your deployment

SharePoint just installed as a product adds little or no value. And once installed and configured it is essential for organisations to understand the planning, roles, responsibilities and ongoing review required to leverage the initial investment in SharePoint. Governance for SharePoint is applied both from a systems and process point of view by using built in tools and adopting a flexible business enabling framework. In this session Chandima will share with you essential Governance planning steps for SharePoint deployments of any size. You will learn how to avoid some of the most common mistakes of SharePoint and how to approach your overall solution architecture and deployment in a modular framework that can scale from small to enterprise.

Intended Audience: Managers, business analysts, architects, information workers, project managers, IT professionals, and developers with in an interest in planning/architecture will all gain insight from this non-technical event.

Compliance, ECM and the SharePoint platform - SharePoint User Group Session (WLG - NZ)

Mark Orange (SharePoint MVP) will be presenting on Thursday 25th September at the Wellington SharePoint User Group.

Compliance is too often approached from a control and punish focus, adding another layer over an already stretched workforce.  Compliance is best achieved when it is the side effect of good business processes and tools, not another burden on end users. MOSS provides many tools and features to support a wide range of compliance issues, and the focus always starts with usability and accessibility to support broad user adoption.

When we talk about compliance within organisations today it is very contextual. What compliance means to the marketing and communications team is different than the legal team, which is different than the operations team and so on. So let’s take a look at some scenarios and see what MOSS brings to the table to support user adoption and ultimately compliance within some of our many business contexts.

Speaker: Mark Orange (MVP - SharePoint)

    Date: 25th September 2008 (Thursday)

Venue: Intergen Limited, Level 7, Plunket House, 126 Lambton Quay.

    Presentation Starts at 6PM

Wellington SharePoint User Group April Session

The next Wellington SharePoint User Group will be having a session on Wednesday the 30th of April at Microsoft Wellington offices.

Topic: MOSS 2007 Role-Based MySite Templates

To fully utilize the power of MOSS in a corporate environment, concepts such as Excel Services, Analysis Services and Business Data Catalogue are key to success. Courtesy of Microsoft we have seven templates at our fingertips to create My Site portals based around differing organisational  roles. Each template explores the information needs out of a slightly different perspective: Administrative Assistant, Financial Controller, Customer Service Manager, HR Manager, IT Manager, Marketing Manager and Sales Account Manager.

In this session Alex Dean will be introducing three roles and show how the different technologies come together to increase productivity within the organisation. The My Site for the admin assistant focuses on collaboration and time keeping, the template for the marketing manager concentrates on business analysis and reporting features while the site for the IT Manager uses business data catalogue features more heavily.

This session is targeted at SharePoint power users and business analysts and end users and will apply to Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 specifically.
